90/100Stephan Reinhardt,Robert Parker Wine Advocate
From the lower part of the west-facing slope of the Mainz Mountain in Ingelheim and grown on deeper soils from weathered limestone, the 2020 Heerweg Spatburgunder opens with delicate and polished dark fruit (black berries) intertwined with toast aromas and notes of red paprika. Fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged in small oak barrels for 18 months, this is a silky, elegant, dense, juicy, refined and refreshing Pinot with remarkably fine and spicy/peppery tannins that are still young and palate cleansing but refreshing. This is a very charming, elegant and mouthwatering Pinot with structure, intensity and good length. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2023.
