Frauenberg, Riesling, Grosses Gewächs, 2024
Airborne and super fine, this Frauenberg is not so showy or dazzling as last year’s version, the cool vintage offering layers of subtlety and nervy focus. As always, it shows notes of white stone lime and a briney salinity, tight and long with a light smoky stony finish. A very windy site that offers up light to the Hergott’s darkness. The soil is extremely rocky and stony, not heavy at all. Buffeted by wind from the Zellertal valley, sitting at 280m above sea level, this is always the last vineyard to be harvested, and the wines have an aromatic clarity that is second to none.
critic reviews
The 2024 Frauenberg Nieder-Florsheim Riesling GG is deep, intense and concentrated on the elegant, pure and complex nose. Pure, saline and fresh on the palate, this is a full-bodied, round and elegant, balanced and finely juicy Riesling with a stimulatingly fresh, precise and mouthwatering finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Diam 10 cork. Tasted in August 2025.
The 2024 Riesling Nieder-Flörsheimer Frauenberg Grosses Gewächs is from the most ventilated site in the Battenfeld-Spanier portfolio, at 280 meters in elevation. Subtlety, tender reduction and creaminess define the nose. This is shy and takes time to open up. It is tender, tense, poised and full of juicy lemon brightness. This is pervasive, insistent and yet so gentle, with an exquisite saltiness from the limestone. More air lets the citrus shine even more. The 2024 is a wonderful treasure. (Bone-dry)
