The 2023 Nackenheim Rothenberg GG Wurzelecht is deep, pure, savory and super intense on the complex and layered, terroir-driven nose. Based on ungrafted vines up to 89 years old, this is a highly complex, refined and sustainable Riesling with a powerful, intense and structured finish. This is one of Germany's most exciting and promising dry Rieslings of the vintage. It's savory, saline and stimulating as well as very long and tensioned from the very first second and keeps it up for very long time. 12.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.
The 2023 Riesling Nackenheimer Rothenberg Wurzelecht Grosses Gewächs will not be released until summer 2025. The un-grafted vines were planted in this tiny, east-facing site surrounded by a wall in 1934. Reduction still clouds the nose, while tender iron oxide peeks through shyly. The palate is concentrated and balm-like, with a soothing vein of chamomile and a tisane-like gentleness. There’s much power and flow, holding a world of citrus that is still contained and tightly coiled. The essence-like fruit simultaneously tingles with zestiness and soothes with fluidity. This is a precious elixir that really needs time. It’s pristine, mysterious and full of promise. (Bone-dry)
