Tighter-wound and a little more strict in its youth than the basic Rossese. Crisp, crunchy red cherry fruit mixed with notes of ripe rose-tinged apricots, rock salt and stones. Silky but very mineral indeed, tense and chalky. Sophisticated and stylish with a great deal of energy. One of the most famous cru in the DOC of Dolceacqua, known by the Romans and cultivated by the Rondinelli family since 1870. South-east facing, situated at between 360 to 380 metres altitude, planted on white clay and blue marl soils, producing elegant wines that mix Rossese’s classic rose and red fruit character with notes of mineral and iodine. Ageing is in used oak barrels to avoid any impact of wood on the flavour of the wine. Brilliant after a year or two in bottle, but also with the ability to age between five to ten years in the very best vintages.
