Barbaresco, Rabaja, 2018
Much more complex and concentrated than the racier Bas. A wonderful array of red fruits mixed with sweet spice; fresh cherries, griotte and Asian spices abound; Concentrated and intense but expressive and fluid with it. The most seductive balance between charm and power. Glorious. A very different vineyard, and resulting wine, to Rabaja Bas. The soils are a similar limestone clay composition, but this is an even steeper, well-drained vineyard. Reared for 21 months in Austrian and Slavonian oak casks.
critic reviews
The 2018 Barbaresco Rabajà is broad and ample in feel, as wines from this site tend to be. Dried rose petal, mint, licorice, black cherry and incense lend striking aromatic presence, but the Rabajà is mostly notable for its overall resonance and feel. Ripeness feels just a bit pushed, but for wines that can be a bit austere in their youth, that is not a bad outcome at all.
