Barolo, Massara, 2020
Deeper textured with a cloak of rich tannin, spice and citrus, mint and eucalyptus. The 2020 offers a gentle veneer of sandalwood and spice from the barrel, framing the fruit and adding a bit of push to the tannic pull. Massara is a prominent, southeast facing Verduno vineyard situated below the village itself at 230-370m. The soils are primarily blue marl and clay based with veins of chalk – typically producing more sumptuous, rounded wines than its drier, more exposed neighbour, Monvigliero.
critic reviews
Just bottled, the 2020 Barolo Massara possesses good energy and cut, with very dark cherry, plum, lavender and rose petal. This is a relatively easygoing Massara, but all the elements are nicely balanced. Crushed red berry fruit and gentle tannins guide the palate. This can but quite powerful in some years, but the 2020 is very much on the softer side.
