Barolo, Percristina, 2005
An absolute stunner that shows how underrated the 2005 vintage was. Svelte ripe flavours with the juiciness and elegance of the vintage; long dense but very suave, lifting small red berry and currant fruits, infused with asian spices herbs and sap, the finish echoes with beautiful perfumed fruit for an eternity. Named after Domenico’s daughter, the Percristina comes from the Mosconi Cru, a vineyard slope neighbouring the Ginestra with the same south-east exposure. The powerful nature of the Mosconi wines sees them spend up to two years in French oak barriques.
critic reviews
Clerico's 2005 Barolo Percristina, which was so promising at the outset, has never lived up to that early potential. Ultimately, the lavish new oak has proven to be too much. The 2005 has enough freshness to drink well for another few years, but I don't see it ever being in balance.
