Barolo, Gramolere, 2022

Gramolere is always more substantial in terms of tannic load and darker fruits, balancing that with more blood orange, pine and balsamic, as well as plummy notes, which are all held together beautifully – a taut and sparkling 2022, with wilder fruits. Harvested before Monvigliero for the first time ever. History has shown it to age graciously, with cut and sinew and mineral spark. From a 2ha plot in Monforte d’Alba inherited by Vittore’s mother, a Manzone (of the Giovanni Manzone estate): steep and west facing at 400m elevation, with dark sandstone soils, the vines are an impressive 60 years old; harvest usually takes place a week later here than in Verduno.
