Barolo, Monvigliero
Fratelli Alessandria

Barolo, Monvigliero, 2017

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

A serious, backboned Barolo that, despite its solid and compact tannic structure, offers refreshing fruit and clearly delineated flavours. Peppery dark berries washed over salts and stones with a cleansing chalkiness to the finish and a warming glow of sweet spice, all of which are set in a steadying but silky tannic framework. A steep, chalk south/ south west facing vineyard sitting at 280 metres above sea level above San Lorenzo. After a month of gentle the wine is then aged for 3 years in large wooden vats.

critic reviews

93/100Susan Hulme,The Wine Independent

The 2017 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo Monvigliero has spicy, peppery, rose petal and delicate red fruit notes on a very pretty, fragrant nose. It has depth, concentration and flesh in the middle. It is still very assertive, with slightly drying chalky tannins, not fully integrated into the body of the wine. It lacks the harmony and finesse of the very great wines but is an attractive, characterful country cousin. Wait 2-3 years, keep 20-25.

96/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

The 2017 Barolo Monvigliero marries the raciness of the year with the floral lift and elegance of this great Verduno site. More than anything, the 2017 is a Barolo of pure and total sensuality. Even so, there is more than enough tannin to allow the 2017 to drink well for many years to come. It is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage. The rich, substantial finish is a thing of real beauty.
