Barolo, San Lorenzo di Verduno, 2022
Primary and open and flattering on the nose, the palate displays generous notes of kirsch, peach and hay, with dried flowers and hints of leather on the finish. Initially large-scaled, it opens up quickly and finds more nuance. San Lorenzo is the lower continuation of Monvigliero. It has the same south facing position but generally produces wines with an extra layer of lovely glossy fruit thanks to siltier soils. Alessandria has 0.8ha here. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in 25hl Slavonian oak cask for three years.
critic reviews
The 2022 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno is redolent of dark-toned fruit, leather, sage, menthol, licorice and espresso. This potent, savory Verduno Barolo has a lot to offer. Today it is on the somber side, with bruising tannins to match.
