Barolo, Rocche di Castiglione, 2022
Super high-toned and intense, this is a 2022 with uncommon verticality, balanced with the prettiest crystalline red fruits. Limpid and clear-cut, with bright raspberry, salts and a beautiful sculpt to the tannins. A top-class wine. One of the most famous crus in Barolo, Rocche is a steep, south-east-facing Castiglione Falletto vineyard. Brovia’s plot was planted in 1966 at 350m. The high proportion of sand here means about 70% of the soils are dry, producing wines of great nerve and minerality. Aged in large, used oak casks for two years.
critic reviews
The 2022 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a total stunner. A Barolo of exquisite finesse, the 2022 shows why this site is so highly regarded. Silky, aromatic and wonderfully deep, this is seriously impressive. All the vineyard signatures are beautifully delineated in the glass. Rose petal, sweet red berry fruit, chalk, mint and white pepper come alive. What a total delight. The Brovia Rocche is without question one of the wines of the vintage, which is one of the most erratic in recent memory. Bravo!
