Barolo, Ginestra, 2013
Powerful but fine and chalky in structure with fresh juicy fruit notes. Radiant forest berry, mineral and stone flavours with a strong iron component. Characterful rocky and rugged, in a good way, with a suaveness and finesse to the fortifying tannins that makes this so intriguing and moreish. Wears its heart on its sleeve and is quite brilliant for it! From South facing vines in the stellar Ginestra Cru of Monforte d’Alba situated at between 300-350 metres above sea level. The wine is aged in large, old 35hl French cask for 3 years followed by a further 6-12 months ageing in bottle.
critic reviews
Black cherry, mocha, plum, licorice and smoke make a strong opening statement in the 2013 Barolo Ginestra. Bold and explosive in the glass, the 2013 offers plenty of depth and power but is also marked by oak, and starting to show signs of faint oxidation. It will drink well for at least a handful of years, but does not look like a long term keeper.
