Barolo, Ginestra, 2014
An easier access Monforte d’Alba than usual but not at the expense of classic, meaty and mineral Monforte character. Though open and accessible, not lacking force or muscle. A good, fine tannic grip ably supporting the dark savoury, berry, blood orange and chalk characteristics. Wonderfully clear and clean on the saline finish. From South facing vines in the stellar Ginestra Cru of Monforte d’Alba situated at between 300-350 metres above sea level. The wine is aged in large, old 35hl French cask for 3 years followed by a further 6-12 months ageing in bottle.
critic reviews
The Ginestra cru is a personal favorite. I just love the wines from this long slope of sun-soaked vineyards that extends down from Monforte d'Alba. The Paolo Conterno 2014 Barolo Ginestra has fared very nicely despite the infamous difficulties of the vintage. The wine shows tiptop ripeness with balanced and intense aromas of black fruit, spice, anise seed and cola. This wine is still very tight and nervous at its core, so give it ample time to evolve in your cellar. I'd suggest another 10 years at a minimum. With 16,000 bottles made, this wine promises to blossom.
