Paolo Conterno
Barolo, Riserva, Ginestra, 2009
justerini & brooks tasting note
Bags of old vines concentration and richness with a 2009 warmth and generosity. Dark, dense meaty flavours with a very serious structure and bright mineral, iron and undergrowth notes. Long powerful and multi-layered. From South facing vines in the stellar Ginestra Cru of Monforte situated at between 300-350 metres above sea level. From particular plots in the middle and top of the slope of Ginestra where the oldest vines are. The wine is aged in large 35hl French cask for at least 5 and a half year (as is the case with the 2009) but in some vintages, where needed, this can be up to 7 years. The ageing is then followed by another 6-12 months ageing in bottle.
