Barolo, Riserva, Ginestra, 2010
An immense Barolo of great stature. A dark ominously brooding nose, big strapping flavours on the palate but all beautifully fine-grained and defined. Serious and structured dark berry fruits with an incredibly mouth-watering minerality cutting through. Multi-layered notes of bramble, cherry, iron, cool earth, roasted meat blood orange and salt. As large-framed as this is, there is no excess fat and your mouth is left clear and clean. Stunning. From South facing vines in the stellar Ginestra Cru of Monforte situated at between 300-350 metres above sea level. From particular plots in the middle and top of the slope of Ginestra where the oldest vines are. The wine is aged in large 35hl French cask for at least 5 and a half year (as is the case with the 2009) but in some vintages, where needed, this can be up to 7 years. The ageing is then followed by another 6-12 months ageing in bottle.
critic reviews
Not surprisingly, the 2010 Barolo Ginestra Riserva is the most overt and explosive Barolo in this range. Violets, lavender, blue/black fruit, smoke and licorice burst from the glass. The 2010 is wonderfully alive, with tons of Ginestra power and personality to burn. Today, the 2010 has the potential to develop into a thrilling Barolo.
