Barolo, 2019
Smokey oak nose mixed with fine berry notes. The palate offers everything you could possibly want in a Barolo, one of the very best blended Barolos in the vintage, in fact one of the vintage's most satisfying and complete Barolos full stop. Discrete, gentle, edgy but with a degree of polish, wonderful notes of sweet spice, clear vivacious red fruits, classic tar and roses. Lively and utterly gripping. A Barolo ‘Classico’ that is a blend from five single crus in the Barolo and Castiglione region. Aged for one year in large oak ‘botti’ and one year in barriques.
critic reviews
Scavino’s 2019 Barolo is a very pretty, classically-built wine. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, white pepper and chalk give the 2019 an attractive upper register of brightness to match its taut, mid-weight personality. This is a rare straight Barolo that will benefit from a bit of time in bottle.
The Paolo Scavino 2019 Barolo (with Enrico Scavino's signature on the front label) was a little slow to open and showed some reductive qualities when I tasted it. Give it more time to develop. Reading between the lines, you get bright cherry and raspberry with mild spice, licorice and tar. It ends with mineral sensations and easy Nebbiolo tannins (that are still young but aligned). Some 45,000 bottles were made.
