Paolo Scavino
Barolo, 2017
justerini & brooks tasting note
A very good Classico, supple but not wanting for structure, with spicy red fruit and currants and a touch of supporting coffee bean and oak. A Barolo ‘Classico’ that is a blend from seven single crus in the Barolo, Castiglione and Serralunga regions. Aged for one year in large oak ‘botti’ and one year in barriques with a maximum of 10 percent new wood.

Scavino’s 2017 Barolo is gracious and perfumed. Medium in body and a touch fleeting, the 2017 looks to be a wine best suited for drinking now and over the next few years. The stresses of the growing season were most severe on less-important sites, so it makes sense that the straight Barolo is a touch light. Sweet red cherry, mint, dried flowers and spice linger.
