    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
    Piero Busso, Barbaresco, Gallina, 2012

A clay-dominated, south-west exposed vineyard that faces the river so it has a very windy micro climate despite it not being particularly high, 240 metres altitude. Ageing is the same as for the other crus, 2 years in salvonian oak casks, but is kept an extra year in bottle before release. A mix of airy high-toned wild red berry flavours and smooth, voluptuous texture. Powerful, mouth-filling and silky, a real "Grand Cru" presence and length. Glorious flavours of strawberry, cherry and cherry blossom on the long finish.

The 2017 Barbaresco Gallina packs a serious punch of acid and tannin, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, cedar, mint and orange peel open with some air, and yet the Gallina remains pretty reluctant today. I would give it a year or two in bottle, minimum.
