Barbaresco, Gallina, 2021
A more generous perfumed nose with wild plum, bramble fruit, black berry and violets. Grand-scaled with real stature on the palate, the 2021 Gallina balances complex fruit and spice with an earth-stone backbone. Powerful, ripe tannins and great length, this is a really exciting Barbaresco. The Busso part of Gallina is considered a good one, as it is well-exposed, facing Ovello to the west rather than full south, so it benefits from breezes coming off the Tanaro. Produced from the oldest vines of the estate, the wine sees an extra year in bottle before release.
critic reviews
The 2021 Barbaresco Gallina is a very beautiful wine. It's a poised, classy Barbaresco that isn't trying to do too much, not trying to be more than it can be. Floral notes, red-toned fruit, chalk and mint develop in a Barbaresco of notable translucence and total class. Silky, polished tannins wrap it all together in style.
