Barolo, Fossati
Roberto Voerzio

Barolo, Fossati, 2019

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

An initially introspective wine that draws you in and then unleashes a wave of shimmering dark fruits, iodine, salt and herbs with wiry tannins and a brisk, cooling acidity. Really very thrilling. Paradoxically it manages to be both fulsome and hearty and also beautifully precise and polished. Vital, virile and complex, this was our pick on the day – a first! Fossati sits mostly in the Barolo commune, tipping into La Morra at its steepest western end. The slope is relatively gentle, and the soil is mainly deep, and clay influenced, though is much stonier at its steepest part at the top of the hill. As well as soil depth, the vineyard is also characterised by its very uniform east/southeast exposure and its high altitude of 340 to 480m above sea level. Voerzio has a small plot planted with 35–40-year-old vines.
