Barolo, Riserva, Fossati Case Nere, 2009

Oozing unctuous, wild red berry and Victoria plum fruit. Round and ripe but with good definition of fruit. Broad, enveloping and with a caressing structure. Pure seduction. A blend of Fossati and Case Nere that is released in magnums 10 years after the vintage. The wine is made and aged in cask the same way as all of the other crus, but kept at the estate in bottle for longer.

The 2009 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Fossati Case Nere is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic and flavor development as it heads into its early plateau of maturity. Dried autumn leaves, macerated cherry, tobacco, spice and licorice give the 2009 lovely complexity and nuance as it fleshes out so beautifully in the glass. This is very nicely done.
