Marchesi Antinori, Solaia, Toscana IGT, 2023
2023 is Cabernet dominant with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. As ever, there is also an assertive nod to regional tradition, with 20% of Sangiovese. The resulting wine is supremely polished, as you would expect from this address, but with a chiselled and complex backbone of tannins and acidity. Cool, svelte black fruits and a long, impressive, sapid finish with good powdery grip and an enduring persistence. This already displays all the hallmarks of a truly great Solaia.
critic reviews
The 2023 Solaia offers up hints of blackberry, gravel, incense, dried herbs, mocha, tobacco, espresso and sweet French oak. There's a bit of youthful firmness in the tannin that needs time to soften, but that should not be an issue for long. Cabernet Sauvignon speaks with tremendous eloquence as hints of grilled herbs, tobacco, incense, leather and gravel stain the incisive finish. There's a lot of wine here.
