Brunello di Montalcino, Petroso, 2019
Always a great “regular” Brunello, the 2019 expresses an array of red and black fruits with a more alluring and immediate feel compared to the single vineyards, complete with a spicy backbone, and ripe, melting, integrated tannins. The balance here is fabulous and it offers a lot of enjoyment. Mostly from vineyards around Montalcino and Castelnuovo del Abate (Fornace was not produced, to the benefit of the straight Brunello), plus a smattering of Montosoli and Petroso grapes.
critic reviews
The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows delicate aromas of blue flower, redcurrant, cranberry and potting soils. It has all the basic components of a classic Sangiovese. Fruit is sourced from across the estate vineyard holdings ranging from 200 to 600 meters above sea level, or the ceiling of the appellation. Baking spice is delivered to the palate with silky, almost glossy tannins. The mouthfeel is extremely fine. This is a very Burgundian Brunello, with 38,500 bottles made.
