Brunello di Montalcino, Riserva, 2001
This is the result of a specific selection of the most concentrated grapes in some of the finest and oldest parcels on the Pertimali estate. These grapes are vinified separately and aged for four years in Slavonian oak cask and two years in bottle. A wine of stunning elegance and power, multi-layered flavours of cherry, bramble, sloe, juniper and minerals, really intense stuff that betrays a cast-iron grip and power underneath its silky veil of ripe fresh fruits.
critic reviews
Pertimali’s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a poignant reminder of a time in the estate’s history when the wines were consistently brilliant. Dusty red cherries, tobacco, Mediterranean herbs and cedar lift from the glass in a super-classic Brunello that shows just how exciting Sangiovese can be in Montalcino. Sadly, the Pertimali wines are rarely this compelling today.
