The estate was originally purchased in 1984 by Giancarlo and Nuccia Gloder, from Milan, who had fallen in love with the wines of Montalcino and the unique beauty and geographical position of Poggio Antico. Located at an average altitude of approximately 450 metres above sea level, Poggio Antico, is one of the highest altitude estate's of Brunello. This highly privileged position and sunny vineyards facing south to southwest guarantee optimum growing conditions, and afford the grapes a great natural balance between sugar and acidity.Yields are kept intentionally, nearly half the amount stipulated by law for Brunello di Montalcino. Short pruning, de budding, green harvests and a pre harvest de-selection, not to mention a double sorting in the winery, all ensure that only concentrated, pristine grapes are used for their wines. A new cellar was built in 2002, old cylindrical vats were replaced by truncated cone-shaped stainless steel tanks which allow for a more gentle extraction. Depending on the Cuvee the wines are either aged in large Slavonian oak barrels and / or French 500-litre tonneaux. Intense pure and elegant Brunellos.
