The 2016 Calvert Pinot Noir has a little more definition on the nose than the 2016, featuring a mixture of red and black fruit tinged with black truffle and smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with red berry fruit, tomato vine, a touch of white pepper and an elegant finish that perhaps just misses the harmony and persistence of the previous vintage. Nevertheless, this is still very pretty and succinct Pinot Noir that should age well in bottle if so desired.
Made with 25% whole clusters, the 2016 Calvert Pinot Noir is floral and herbal up front, with distinct rose petal and thyme aromas. Red berries take charge on the palate, although there's a resinous herbal note from start to finish. This medium-bodied wine is supple enough to be approachable now, but it has the concentration to age through 2025.
