Pinot Noir, MacMuir, 2023
Lots of red and black fruit on the nose (black cherry). It’s on the darker side compared to the other single vineyards. Dark and brooding on the palate, very serious for a young vine cuvee with a plethora of fresh hedgerow fruit bound by smooth but mouth-coating tannins. 1 km east of the Elms vineyard and the winery, 300m west of Calvert. A young vines plot designed with climate change in mind. Planted with higher vine density and a range of massage selections from the Block 5 and Block 3 vineyards. Deep silt soils. 25% whole Clusters. 13 Months in 25% French new Oak Barrels.
critic reviews
The 2023 Pinot Noir MacMuir is sweetly fruited, finely fragrant and herbal, reflecting a portion of whole-bunch fermentation (25%). Fine, sinewy and deeply tannic, there is a real sense of real grip on the long, plummy, spiced fruitcake finish. This is not one for opening too soon. It needs time.
