Pinot Noir, MacMuir, 2024
The fourth vintage of a single vineyard that the Felton Road team are confident will come to challenge Blocks 3 and 5 for Pinot superiority, the 2024 arrives with a lot more incense and lavender over the estate Bannockburn, with a wash of ripe, velvety tannins and plush, succulent fruit. Situated 1 km east of the Elms vineyard and the winery, 300m west of Calvert, MacMuir is a young vines plot (2009) designed with climate change in mind. Planted with higher vine density and a range of massage selections from the Block 5 and Block 3 vineyards on deep silt soils. Fermented with 25% whole clusters and aged for 13 months in 25% French new oak barrels.
critic reviews
I'm really impressed with the texture and intensity of the 2024 Pinot Noir MacMuir. The nose is distinctive with heady herbs adding intrigue to ripe, sweet black fruit. Oak supports in the background. The intense fruit richness is almost coulis-like, and there's no shortage of ripeness. A soft mid-palate tightens up on the conclusion. Dried fruit, cola and spiced hot chocolate linger on the long, textured finish. This gnarly wine has youth on its side and decent prospects.
