A field blend from a 60 year old block surrounding the winery in the Serra da Estrela at 600m altitude. The exact composition is not known, but Jaen, Baga, Alfrochiero, Tinto-Cao and Tinta Pinheira are the main players. Hugely complex on the nose with lifted ethereal notes of incense, iodine, mint and mineral charged blackberries, dry plums and red cherries. Tons of character here and a lively, slightly wild edge that makes it hugely compelling. Fermented with 40% whole bunches and aged for 16 months in used French oak. Not bottled in 2019 but will be back in 2020.
