Kameraderie, Chenin Blanc, 2023
This Swartland Chenin is always the most concentrated and reserved of the two Chenins. Where Trust is typically delicate and more open on release, Kamaraderie requires a little focus, yet in 2023 its class simply leaps out of the glass. So pure and sophisticated with complex herbal notes of fennel along with hay and ripe citrus, this is a gorgeous Chenin. From two old blocks on the Paardeberg, planted in 1961 and 1968 on decomposed granite soils. Aged 82% in concrete the rest in used 500L barrel.
critic reviews
The 2023 Kameraderie is a single-parcel Chenin Blanc from the Paardebery, 80% planted in 1966 and the rest in 1980. It was aged in 500-liter barrels and concrete on the lees. This has quite an intense bouquet with yellow plum, lanolin and touches of sage and fennel. The palate is well balanced with a slightly petrolly entry, fine delineation and tension, and hints of stem ginger toward the finish. Excellent.
