    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Tight, pixellated small fruits with hints of red berries and grapefruit, pink pepper and rock salt, the 2023 shows bristling focus and austerity. Very smart indeed. The Plat’bos Chenin (Low-Bush) is the most linear, acid-driven wine of the single vineyards and the site remains an important component in both the regular Chenin Blanc and Aristargos blend. Situated immediately next to the Skaliekop vineyard but in pure, decomposed granite. Planted in 1981, it is Old Vine Project certified. One of the earliest vineyards to be picked owing to its northern (warm) exposure

The 2023 Chenin Blanc Plat'bos comes from a single vineyard of 3.6-hectares on granite soils that the Sadies have farmed for 11 years. This site tends to be picked earlier due to its exposure. This has the best aromatics of the whites in this range: orange blossom, linseed oil and crushed stone coming through with time. There’s real energy here. The palate is deftly balanced with a sapid entry. Satsuma mixes with grapefruit and light spicy notes, with good persistency on the linear finish. This is as good as the previous vintage.
