Red, 2019
The Rall Red is held back an extra year in bottle prior to release as it is the more structured of the reds. 70% Syrah 12% Grenache 10% Carignan and 8% Cinsault. Brambly with a core of sweeter, purer red fruit than the 2018. Donovan picked the Grenache, Carignan and Swartland Cinsault earlier in 2019 to help raise the acidity naturally. Almost 100% whole bunch and all in smaller oak barrels, nothing new, and bottled January 2020. Released after a year in bottle. 6k bottles.
critic reviews
Composed of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan, the 2019 Red Blend is dark ruby in the glass and offers notions of dark red berries, wild strawberries and juicy plum on the nose, followed by subtle aromas of cherry blossoms and dried herbs. Medium-bodied, the palate is still tight with fine-grained tannins that grip the gumline, leaving behind a sensation of bitter dark chocolate and spiced red tea. The red blend concludes with a firm yet juicy finish. Enjoy it with food, especially barbecue/braai.
