Ribera del Duero

Ribera del Duero is one of Spain´s great, classic wine regions. Located in northern Castilla y Leon, Ribera del Duero is famous for its powerful, long-lived wines made from the Tempranillo grape. Small amounts of white wine is also now produced, but this is red wine country at heart. The intense heat of its summers is tempered by planting vineyards at high altitudes, often up to 1000m above sea level, and the best vineyards are often on chalky, limestone rich soils. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot can be used, with the latter two grapes blended with Tempranillo to great effect by the regions greatest producer; Vega Sicilia.
