The 2021 Vivaltus from Ribera del Duero was aged for up to 12 months in barrels and amphorae. A core of red fruit—cherry to cassis—mingles with lavender and wild herbs on the nose. The palate is rich and complete, silky and soft, with a light grip from fine-grained tannins and a flavorful, herb-inflected finish. Nuanced in the glass, the 2021 leaves a long, mentholated aftertaste. I expect this to build even more complexity after bottling.Very promising today.
