O Equilibrio, Albarino, Rias Baixas, 2022
More intensity, fewer flowers and more struck match and flint with some smoke and essential oils. The palate has more impact and breadth, less sparky and more contoured, yet more salty and serious too. From barrel, there is evidently so much quality and character on display. Equilibro is a blend of two sites on the north and south side of the mountain on schist soils, close to each other. A third, sandier-schist site came in to play in 2022, bringing a little more white fruit and top notes to the final wine.
critic reviews
The 2022 O Equilibrio had only been in bottle for one month or so when I tasted it, and it felt a little shy and closed, obviously young and undeveloped. They are slowly getting more vineyards, always keeping the south-facing vineyards from the slate soils (a little more from Arras this year), all from very small plots. Fermentation and aging were the same, all in used oak. It feels like a very complete wine, with great balance, a moderate 13% alcohol and still with over eight grams of acidity (the wines don't go through malolactic). It slowly opens up in the glass, revealing incipient complexity. The palate is super tasty and incredibly balanced, seamless, integrated, harmonious and with purity. Like the name says. Superb! They produced around 10,000 bottles of this wine. It was bottled in August 2023.
