Bella Oaks, La Genie, 2022
Initially one is struck by the beautiful bouquet – floral notes mingle with sweet cassis, garrigue, hints of coal and minerals, which segue to a gorgeous, creamy attack of dark berries, vibrant griotte, blackcurrant and liquorice. This second wine made from the young vines from the Bella Oaks vineyard is bold, generous, and stylish with a gentle spice and refreshing acidity adding complexity to the sumptuous fruit. Just 600 cases of each cuvee produced.

The 2022 Le Genie is blended mostly from younger vines, picked on the earlier side for a more vibrant style. That works quite well, especially in 2022. Bright acids run through a core red/purplish fruit, chalk, white pepper and orange peel. Le Genie is among the best wines in its peer group, meaning the second wines of top estates.
