Cain Cellars
Cain Five, Napa Valley, 2016
justerini & brooks tasting note
Stony dark and serious at first, with wonderful black fruit, but also tea and flowers and herbs. This is propelled across the palate with lovely intensity and tension, through to a long driving finish, constantly interesting as the layers slowly reveal themselves. Very mineral, very taut, with a savoury mineral dimension, fine dark berry and blackcurrant bush notes that haunt the finish alongside, graphite, bay and sage. There’s great precision here, focused intensity and complex touches of sauvage hillside that coming through as it opens up. Such a long finish. Very good indeed.
