Cabernet Sauvignon, Farella Vineyard, Napa Valley, 2013
Massimo Di Costanzo’s Farella Cabernet Sauvignon represents much that is exciting about current day Napa valley. A young winemaker, full of experience, making a single small volume cuvee exactly as he would like – following a stylistic path driven by a desire to make wines that enhance a meal rather than dominate it. the 2013 Farella vineyard is just a baby still but posseses so much charm and precision that its already hard to resist. Beautiful fine violet and floral aromatics dance with small crunchy purple berry fruit on the nose, while the palate is structured yet polished, with cool berry and graphite notes, fine tense steel tannins, great energy and delineation. There’s plenty of power here, but also tremendous aromatic complexity balanced by a crisp and structural minerality. Absolutely gorgeous.
