Cabernet Sauvignon, Farella Vineyard, Napa Valley, 2015
Deeply mineral with fabulous precise dark fruit aromas that unfurl to reveal layers of smoke, stones and violets, the volcanic soils evident on the nose but also the palate as a ripe but mineral tannic framework supports notes of olive, dark berry fruit, dark cherry and chocolate. There’s a layer of mid palate richness here that buffers the powerful mineral side beautifully while the finish is long and nuanced. Cool, precise, dark and mineral – this is another top release from di Costanzo, and an excellent successor to the stunning 2013 and 2014 releases.
critic reviews
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is just starting to enter its first plateau of maturity. Crushed flowers, spice, dried autumn leaves, mint, espresso and blood orange all grace this exquisite Cabernet. All the elements are so well balanced. The 2015 has aged so well, even better than I had originally anticipated. The combination of a cool site and a warm vintage is so appealing.
