Bearwallow Vineyard, Pinot Noir, 2022
Such an interesting counterpart to the Santa Cruz Mountain wines, the ’22 Bearwallow sings with spicy minerals, dark sleek fruit and the classic Bearwallow sting – a spine of tannins that brings the finish together. Mineral fruit, mineral spice and mineral tannins – a rare Anderson valley wine that does need a little time in bottle to fully blossom.
critic reviews
The 2022 Pinot Noir Anderson Valley opens with a beautifully charming, red-fruited, floral and slightly earth-tinged nose. The palate is suave and spry, with a subtly creamy texture lined with bright fruit flavors and fine-grained tannins that peer out further with aeration. It's a poised introduction to the Rhys lineup.
The 2022 Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard is a dense, virile wine. Readers will want to give this at least a few years in the cellar, as the tannins are quite imposing. Dark blue fruits, mocha, graphite, leather and lavender saturate the palate, framed by insistent tannins that shape the mid-palate and finish. Deep and muscular in feel, the 2022 is a wine of tremendous presence. It is also a singular expression of Anderson Valley.
