Bordeaux 2024 First Growths

The 2024 en primeur campaign didn’t really ignite much enthusiasm. A string of excellent vintages has bred apathy amongst collectors. Add to that a challenging market, and a lacklustre campaign was somewhat inevitable. However, it is often the overlooked years that provide the best opportunities. Take the derided 2013s; some of the worst wines we’ve ever tasted from Bordeaux, yet they’ve all appreciated in value, giving a far better return than most trophy vintages.

A First Growth is a First Growth, regardless of vintage. It holds a cachet over it neighbours and a desirability that collectors and investors value. The 2024 1sts are all exceptional wines that display their pedigree and remind us why they are held aloft. With Latour outside the en primeur system, there are only four 1sts available to buy, and they are all the best priced examples from their respective chateau, cheaper than inferior vintages such as 2013, 2017 and 2021. In short, there’s an opportunity to pick up some very smart wines at prices we may not see again.
