critic reviews

87/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2020 Beaumont offers plenty of blackcurrant and raspberry fruit on the nose, intermixed with cedar and subtle pencil shaving scents—discrete, but it opens with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and a bit chewy with sappy red fruit. The finish "fluffs its lines" and comes across as rather simple, especially in contrast to its appealing aromatics. A recent 2016 showed better than this bottle, hence the question mark against my score. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The 2020 Beaumont is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. Notions of cherry pie, mulberries, and fresh blackberries spill from the glass, plus hints of lilacs and powdered cinnamon. The medium-bodied palate is approachable and uncomplicated, with just enough freshness and a chewy finish.

Another impressive 2020, really one to look out for, standout in texture and character, brambled black fruits, liqourice and fine confident tannins. Great value, one to watch. Terra Vitis. No need to wait years to enjoy this - those black fruits are young but fleshy, and can be enjoyed with a carafe over the next dedade.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Beaumont opens with expressive notions of baked red cherries, mulberries and redcurrant jelly, plus hints of dried mint, pencil shavings and charcoal. The medium-bodied palate delivers a good amount of crunchy red fruits with soft tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with an herbal lift.
