Corton Clos des Cortons, Grand Cru, 2011

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

A wine of grip, muscle and power. Smooth-textured, like many of these 2011s, but more velvet than silk. Tight-packed crunchy red berry, cassis and plum fruit with bright red cherry touches. Earthy, stone and mineral notes echo on the long finish. A 2.8 hectare monopole of Domaine Faiveley.

critic reviews

91/100Stephen Tanzer,Vinous

Bright medium red. Brooding aromas of medicinal black cherry, dark berries, licorice and flowers, plus a minty nuance. Moderately dense, rich and fine-grained but classically dry and quite backward, even clenched. Similarly medicinal and restrained in the mouth, with notes of menthol, herbs and earth, but aeration brought lovely intense flavors of dark fruits, minerals, spices and flowers as well. Finishes with substantial broad, slightly dusty tannins and very good length. Perhaps a bit light for this cuvée and thus probably likely to be a mid-term ager. This wine was a knockout in the early going but today I don't find as much density or sap. (13.1% alcohol; 3.44 pH; 3.4 g/l acidity; 34.5 h/h)
