Condrieu, Clos Chanson, 2022

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Beautifully silky clear-cut fruits, exuding nectarine, pear, honey and hay, even a touch of strawberry. Clos Chanson is creamy and full and glowing, with touches of citrus oil and nut, yet it is typically long and precise in its style. There is lots to love here – a rewarding, open-knit style of Condrieu. Aged and fermented in 20% new oak barriques for a year, from a plot of 50-year-old vines where the high clay content in the soils tends to produce full bodied wines.

critic reviews

95/100Yohan Castaing,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Made from old vines aged 70 years, situated at the entry of the commune of Chavannay, the 2022 Condrieu Clos Chanson unfurls in the glass with aromas of white pear, flowers, almond blossoms, honeysuckle and apricot mingled with fresh, delicate tones with aeration. Full-bodied, dense and rich, it's satiny and seamless, with an enveloping, textural palate, bright acids, an elegant, fresh and ethereal finish and structural tension, as is always the case at this address. This is one of Northern Rhone's top whites of the vintage.

The medium-bodied 2022 Condrieu Clos Chanson was bottled one week before my visit. Framed by soft acidity, it offers fragrant white peach, pear, quince, banana, spring blossom and apricot aromatics. Concentrated and round, the 2022 ends with drive on the exuberant finish.
