St Joseph, Les Grisières, 2015
As you would expect from a fine single vineyard planted with old vines, you get more depth of flavour here than the regular St Joseph but it boasts superior finesse, too. Offering the quality and style of a top notch Cote Roite, this has bright crushed , crunchy dark and red forest berry fruit notes, touches of cherry, cherry blossom and violet , lively notes of sap herb and pepper spice on the long graceful finish. A parcel of 70 year old vines located in the Chavanay commune in the north part of St Joseph near Condrieu. Made from 100% de-stalked Syrah and aged in 20% new oak barriques for 18 months.
critic reviews
Lurid ruby. Complex, highly perfumed aromas of dark berry preserves, cola, cracked pepper and potpourri, lent vivacity by a smoky mineral topnote. Palate-staining blackberry, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors become sweeter and livelier with air. Deftly blends power and finesse and finishes sappy, precise and impressively long, revealing building tannins and resonating florality.
