Barolo, Brunate, Riserva, 2012

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Dense, powerful but smooth. Mouthfilling dark hedgerow fruit. Voluptuous long and suave. Rich but with enough acidity to keep you going back for more. Notes of bramble, cinnamon, earth, kirsch and mocha. This is the same wine as the Vecchie Vigne only since the 2009 vintage it is now released as a Riserva, a change purely in name only. From a single parcel of old vines within Brunate planted in 1942, produced in the same way as the other Cru wines – aged for 24 months in 25% new oak barrels - but kept an extra two years in bottle. Rarely more than 800 bottles are made.

critic reviews

95/100Monica Larner,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2012 Barolo Riserva Brunate is distinguished by two additional years of bottle aging (as opposed to barrel aging). Indeed, that extra time in a closed, oxygen-free container has slowed the wine's evolution. I'd suggest waiting a few years before popping the cork. You can also count on this beautiful Barolo to need an extra long drinking window as its continues its evolution. The bouquet offers a flurry of aromatic activity with lively intensity, dark fruits and spicy complexity. The mouthfeel offers elegantly polished tannins. Marco Marengo says the 2012 vintage represents a marriage of the elegant 2010 growing seasons and the fruity exuberance of 2011.
