Auf dem Haun, Spätburgunder, 2021
Stylish and complex with a darker hue to the fruit, more grip and a bit of sinew, not broad but built around rocks and spice with a depth of limestone minerality, the 2021 Auf dem Haun is persistent and nervy, with a more vertical feel compared to the rest of the range – this and the Heerweg, given their proximity to one another, make a fabulous pair of very individual wines. Simone Adams owns about one hectare here. A west facing site, the wine is fermented with 100% whole clusters and raised for 18 months in used Burgundian barriques.

The 2021 Auf dem Haun Spatburgunder is remarkably fine and elegant yet also intense and iodine-scented on the nose that reveals redcurrant aromas along with herbal and floral notes. From shallow limestone soils that are covered by a 70-centimeter layer of silt, this is a full-bodied and silky, very fine and aromatic Spatburgunder with intense, perfectly ripe and juicy fruit, fine tannins and salinity. The finish is fresh and finessed but also long. This is a charming and noble, very delicate and silky Pinot with salivating astringency on the finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 2023.
