Pinot Noir, Hills Range, 2022
Attractive, playful red and black fruit notes not confined to black raspberry, cherries and ripe strawberries, fine tannins play off a fresh acidity to make for a tasty, engaging Pinot. Fermented with 30% whole bunches, placed at the bottom of the fermenter, the balance destemmed, hand plunged twice a day to keep as many intact berries as possible, and matured in 20% new Burgundy barrels.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate Bottled is dark, savory and quite pretty today. It builds in layers, revealing shades of cracked white pepper, black tea and black cherry fruit, all accented by a notable kick of citrus pith bitterness on the finish. The 2022 is a bit monolithic, especially compared to the 2023 tasted alongside, but it’s a fine choice for drinking over the next five to seven years.
