Pinot Noir, Clos des Capucins, 2023
We tasted the Pinot Clos 2023 just a week after the first bottling and yet it showed remarkably well. Pinots are very much on the march here! Fermented with just 10% whole cluster, the 2023 has a nice mid-weight feel with red and dark berries jostling with juicy, supple tannins. Raised in half foudre, demi-muids and a bit in barrique. No new oak. A newer addition to the range, the Pinot Noir hails from vines on heavier clay soils surrounding the estate.
critic reviews
The 2023 Pinot Noir Clos des Capucins was grown on the sandy soils of the flat, historic vineyards just outside the winery. There is a small proportion of whole bunches in the ferment. It was raised in a mix of pièce and foudre without any new wood. The translucent, ruby-hued wine immediately gives off lively, bright cherry scents. A touch of fine cocoa dusts the palate, underlining its smooth mouthfeel and fruitiness. This is light, bone dry, approachable, beautifully ripe, juicy and fresh.
