Pinot Noir, Cuvée S, 2018
Plummy sultry and sweet spiced as it opens up but definitely on the richer side of the Pinot spectrum. So much for Alsatian shrinking violets – this is a luscious, bold, barrique kissed Pinot Noir and likely to be enjoyed by those who shun any sense of austerity. For all that, it proves surprisingly easy to drink in the depths of winter and would be a great partner to game and rich sauces. The fruit for the ‘S’ cuvee comes from the Granite soils of Grand Cru Schlossberg.
critic reviews
Sourced in the Schlossberg, Weinbach's 2018 Pinot Noir S offers a pure, fresh and flinty bouquet of ripe and elegant dark fruits, herbs and crushed stones. Silky and refined on the generous palate, this is a full-bodied, intense and sustainable Pinot with a stringent mineral structure and remarkable finesse on the dense, aromatic and persistent finish. Powerful but fresh and saline, with crystalline acidity and fine, elegant tannins, it's still young but very promising. 14.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.
